Youth and Disinformation: Piloting a New Research-Informed Intervention

Last year, IRIM conducted the “Mapping Study of Disinformation in Mongolia” and publicly shared its findings. Building on this work, IRIM has now completed a new study titled “Youth Vulnerability to Disinformation and Its Influencing Factors,” conducted among 400 young people aged 16–25.

Based on the study findings, a co-design workshop was organized on May 7 with the participation of youth, media representatives, NGOs, and other stakeholders to collaboratively discuss ideas and approaches for a youth-focused intervention.

The study found that youth vulnerability to disinformation is influenced not only by limited media literacy, but also by cognitive and psychological factors, as well as the influence of family members and peer networks. Therefore, the upcoming pilot intervention will go beyond simply “providing information” and instead focus on improving how young people engage with and process information, using approaches tailored to different youth groups and local contexts.

More detailed findings from the study, as well as updates on the next phase of the intervention, will be shared soon.
