🌐What is the situation in Mongolia regarding the global pressing issue of "Spread of Disinformation"?

🔹The phenomenon of “disinformation spreading in society” is a highly detrimental issue that negatively affects the functioning of democratic institutions and weakens democratic values in society. This issue, which has become more pronounced due to the influence of social media and digital platforms, has been identified as the number one global challenge in the World Risk Report 2025.

🔹Given the global attention this issue is receiving, what is the situation in Mongolia? What topics and narratives are most commonly spread through disinformation, who is responsible for creating and disseminating these messages, and what are the impacts of this disinformation on individuals and society? These are the key questions addressed in the “Mapping of Disinformation Landscape in Mongolia” study, conducted by the IRIM team.

👉The results of the study were discussed in a workshop held on November 4, 2025, with experts from the relevant sectors, and the findings will soon be shared with the public.

This research was conducted as part of the “Action for Integrity and Democracy against Disinformation” project, which is being supported by EU-Team Europe Democracy. The next phase of the project will involve a detailed study of public behaviors in relation to information and how disinformation affects these behaviors, with the aim of testing interventions designed to improve public media literacy based on the findings.
