The purpose of the Study was to examine in detail the existing situation, technical conditions/requirements of vegetables growing among enterprises, individuals and households, and the changes that have taken place in recent years. As part of the Study, the Project’s four outcomes were evaluated; namely:
Outcome 1: Livelihood of rural and peri-urban small holder farmers and women headed households is improved through increased vegetable production to fulfill domestic consumption
Outcome 2: The marketing of domestic vegetables (including those from small-scale farmers and women headed households) is well organized, in-line with market trends and consumers’ preferences, and profitable, with primary and secondary cooperatives playing a key role
Outcome 3: The organizational development, governance structure and financial management of farmer organizations (including VSSUs) is strengthened.
Outcome 4: Sustainable and inclusive growth of the vegetable sector is fostered by improved policy/legal and institutional framework.
In addition, the level of basic project criteria was set.
