The IRIM, in collaboration with the Maastricht University, has implemented the International Labor Organization-funded “Study on Herders’ Behaviour Towards Social and Health Insurance”. The objective of this study is to study herders’ behaviours towards social and health insurance schemes in Mongolia.

The project was implemented in 8 aimags in 4 regions of Mongolia (Bayan-Ulgii, Zavkhan, Uvurkhangai, Bayankhongor, Tuv, Sukhbaatar, Khuvsgul and Umnugobi). The project's data collection was organized between September to November 2021, and used a computer-based data collection method to collect data from a total of 4,000 herders.

During the project, the research team surveyed 4,000 herders in 8 target aimags to study their behaviours towards social and health insurance schemes.

The study consisted of two main components - quantitative and qualitative survey. Quantitative surveys were conducted on 4,000 herders, which lasted from September to November 2021. Data collection was organized using a Computer Assisted Telephone Interviewing (CATI). A total of 52 key informant were involved in the qualitative survey, which involved a team leader and experts from relevant departments. Collection of qualitative research data lasted from October to November 2021.
