The Swiss Development Agency started to implement the 4th phase of Sustainable Artisanal Mining Project (SAM) from 2015

Purpose of phase 4 of the Sustainable Artisanal Mining (SAM) project is to define the economic impact of ASM, and the potential of economic growth in rural economy.

The overall goal of the SAM project is for an economically sustainable, environmentally responsible and human rights based ASM sector in Mongolia, benefitting from and contributing to global best practice regarding artisanal and small-scale mining.

IRIM implemented the baseline survey of the SAM project in 2015, whereas in operation of the follow-up survey from October of 2016.

The key objective of the follow-up survey was to determine small and artisanal miners’ and traders’ contributions to the local (provincial) economy and its growth, and to determine changes in such contributions in the future. And compare the baseline and follow-up survey results to evaluate the 4th phase of the SAM project.
